DB2 for LUW: Administration for Experienced DBAs

This course is designed for experienced DBAs who are to have the responsibility for administering IBM's DB2 Universal Database in a distributed (Linux, UNIX or Windows) environment. The course introduces and explains all aspects of relational technology as implemented by DB2 UDB for Linux, UNIX and/or MS Windows. Combining formal tuition with practical workshop sessions, the course covers all areas relevant to the DBA, including advanced techniques.

Objectives

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  • use Command Center, Control Center, or other SQL execution environment (e.g. WinSQL) to code SQL statements
  • use the System Catlaog
  • understand and control the locking strategy used by DB2 to maintain data integrity
  • describe the different development environments available
  • explain the use and implementation of the Development Center
  • list the different types of indexes and the use of Index Advisor
  • use Visual Explain
  • use and understand the Health Center to describe the development and execution of Utilities
  • explain the use of Journals
  • describe the Replication Center
  • explain the use of the Task Center
  • use the Event Analyzer
  • describe the Indoubt Transaction Manager
  • use the Memory Visualizer
  • describe the Configuration Assistant.

Who Should Attend

New and experienced DBAs with responsibility for the administration of IBM's DB2 UDB.

Prerequisites

Delegates are expected to have the relevant operating system experience (i.e. Linux, UNIX, or Windows). Previous experience of using DB2 is not a prerequisite.
