What is SkillDex?
SkillDex is a powerful and easy-to-use management tool for identifying, analysing and managing the skills, qualifications and experience of personnel throughout an organisation.
With SkillDex you can manage your skills position
for maximum organisational efficiency, keeping on
top of an ever-changing skillbase for a project, a
team, a section, a department or a whole
organisation. You will be able to spot the crucial
skills gaps, identify training needs, compare team
members’ skills against a team average, redeploy
staff for maximum use of their talents and plan
future teams and groups on the basis of complete
and up-to-date information about their skills.
What will it do for me?
SkillDex gives you the information you need to manage your
skillbase.
- Listing - SkillDex is the baseline for keeping a record of
everyone’s constantly changing skillbase. Qualifications,
training courses, talents, experience - you can log it all
with SkillDe
- Maintaining - SkillDex takes the work out of keeping on
top of the skills list by empowering staff to review their
own records online and to request updates as their skills
grow. This ensures that your SkillDex data is always
current.
- Identifying - SkillDex lets you to spot the gaps, see the
strengths, work out the weaknesses.
- For individuals you can see where skills are missing, over
abundant or under-utilised.
- For teams you can identify areas of risk, exposure or
underskilling. SkillDex gives you the full picture across
whole teams, departments or the entire organisation
- Searching and Comparing - SkillDex enables you search for
particular abilities, qualifications and skills within the
whole organisation. Why hire-in expensive skills when you
already have them in-house?
- Managing - SkillDex is invaluable in the creation of
Personal Development Plans (PDPs) giving management

How does it work?
Interviews, online questionnaires and online browsing.
Interviews: To set up SkillDex for you, we will tailor it to your
needs. Each manager or team leader is interviewed by an RSM
consultant, picking out the key areas of activity, skills needed
and training and qualifications required. The interview gets to
the heart of what particular requirements you have, and gives
the RSM consultant the knowledge to set up the skills index.
Questionnaires: From the interview, the RSM consultant will
create an on-line skills index, a questionnaire to be completed
by every individual in the team, designed to get the right
information from the team members. Every individual is given
access to their own personal record, where they can input
their own data, answer the questions and fill in details about
their skills, training experience and qualifications.
On-line browsing: Once the skills index is complete for all
members of the team, SkillDex is viewable on-line for anyone
with access, depending on their level of authority.
Individuals can review the current status of their skills index,
amend and update their entries.
Team leaders can review the entire team’s records, getting an
instant overall picture of the balance of skills, the gaps and
the hidden talents.
Managers can search, compare and review the entire skillbase,
and by using the summaries, get quick, accurate and up-todate
information to plan and develop the teams and the work
ahead.
What about security?
SkillDex communications are based on the universally
acknowledged Secure Sockets Layer (HTTPS) technique. SkillDex
is also password protected, providing varying levels of
authority and access. Individual team members are assigned a
user name and password, to enter, review and change their own
personal data. Team leaders get a second level authority to
give them access to the records of each member of their team.
Managers may be assigned the top-level authority, enabling
them to get the total SkillDex picture for company-wide skills
search and management.
Won’t it mean installing software
all over the company?
No. SkillDex is browser based - there’s nothing to install. The database
and webserver may be housed and maintained by RSM - no extra
hardware or software is required. As long as you have an internet
connection and a web browser, you’re up and running.
Won’t SkillDex quickly go out
of date?
No. SkillDex is a ‘real-time’ tool. Name changes, new personnel,
team deployment, skills development - all are managed by the
system. SkillDex keeps you in the picture as the picture changes,
so you always have up-to-the-minute information. |
