CICS/TS Version 4.1 - New Features and Facilities

This three-day course introduces and explains the new functionality and enhancements available with CICS/TS 4.1. The course will provide attendees with the ability to enable the exploitation of new features such as Event Processing; Atom feeds; Service Component Architecture support and CICS Bundles; Resource Signatures; CICS Explorer and Transaction Routing over TCP/IP.

Course outline

Objectives

On successful completion of this course, attendees will be able to:

  • describe and exploit CICS Event Processing
  • describe and exploit Atom feeds
  • utilise Resource Signatures
  • understand and use the CICS Explorer
  • describe and exploit TR over IPIC
  • become familiar with the Web Services assistants enhanced data mappings and optional interoperability with WebSphere Service Registry and Repository (WSRR)
  • describe and exploit the new SPI command set equivalent to CEDA and DFHCSDUP
  • list ancillary changes such as IPv6 support; new objects such as MQCONN, ATOMSERVICE, BUNDLE, etc.
  • Prepare for migration and the implications of Persistent Session support changes; exploitation of z/OS XML System Services parser and zAAP engine offload; new and changed RDO objects/attributes and SIT parm changes.

CICS/TS 4.1 - an Introduction
For this release, IBM has adopted the themes COMPETE, COMPLY and CONTROL. These themes will be followed as closely as possible in this class.

‘COMPETE’ Theme - 1

Event Processing

What are business events? Invasive and non-invasive; event storage and consumption e.g. WebSphere MQSeries and WebSphere Business Events; CICS Explorer* event binding editor; event processing adapters for XML format, Common Business Event (CBE) format or character format for CICS application consumption; custome event adapters; new SIGNAL EVENT API command; EVENTBINDINGs; CAPTURESPECs; EVENT PROCESS; DFH0EPAC.

‘COMPETE’ Theme - 2

Atom Feeds

What are Atom feeds? Atom format metadata; resources as a collection of Atom entries for HTTP consumption; feeds, syndication and mashups; ATOMSERVICE, URIMAPS and TCPIPSERVICE object relationship; Atom configuration files; Collections for Atom Service and Atom category documents; Web Client HTTP requests and Service routines; HTTP POST, PUT and DELETE requests for Atom feeds; CA8K SupportPac migration; CICS_HOME and JVMPROFILEDIR SIT parms; API changes e.g. BIF DIGEST, WEBREAD QUERYPARM (STARTBR, READNEXT, ENDBR QUERYPARM); SPI changes.

‘COMPETE’ Theme - 3

Service Component Architecture (SCA) and CICS BUNDLEs

What is SCA? What are BUNDLEs and what are they used for? BUNDLE object; manifests; application types; RDz composite application deployment to a CICS channel based service as a bundle; INVOKE SERVICE command; bundle resource types and extensibility; event processing deployment; XML based web services deployment; application data mapped to and from XML using TRANSFORM DATATOXML and TRANSFER XMLTODATA API commands.

‘COMPETE’ Theme - 4

CICS XML Assistant Data Mappings

Batch utilities which help in the transformation of XML into high level language structures and vice versa; DFHLS2SC – generation of XML schema and binding file from a language structure and DFHSC2LS – generation of language structure and XML binding from an XML schema or WSDL document.

‘COMPETE’ Theme - 5

WS Addressing

What is WS-Addressing? Accepting requests that use WS-Addressing in web service applications; creation of new web services using End Point References (EPRs) and Messagte Ids and Message Addressing Properties (MAPs) in SOAP messages; message Ids and endpoint references; new pipeline message handler DFHWSADH.

‘COMPLY’ Theme - 1

Resource Signatures

Installation and definition information about CSD objects and CPSM EYUDREP data repository; when, how and by whom a resource was defined? When, how and by whom a resource was installed; DEFINESOURCE, DEFINETIME etc.; INSTALLAGENT etc.; CEMT, SPI, CPSM resource tables, CEDA, GLUEs and DFHCSDUP changes.

‘COMPLY’ Theme - 2

Web Services Assistants

Enhanced language structure mapping level; new interoperability with WebSphere Service Registry and Repository (WSRR); support for multiple containers in a channel; MINIMUM-RUNTIME-LEVEL; DATETIME; DATA-TRUNCATION; REQUEST-CHANNEL and RESPONSE-CHANNEL; DFHLS2WS enhancements to publish on a WSRR server; DFHWS2LS enhancements to use a WSDL document from a WSRR server.

‘CONTROL’ Theme - 1

CICS Explorer

Eclipse-based Rich Client Platform (RCP); provides a GUI interface on a Windows and Linux client platform for management; GUI to administer either view, update and install resources; CEDA type views, CPSM WUI type views or logical views; real time validation.

‘CONTROL’ Theme - 2

Transaction Routing, START/CANCEL over TCPIP

3270 TR from TOR to AOR(s) and function shipping START and CANCEL commands over IPIC connections; review of IPIC for users migrating to V4.1 from releases prior to V3.2; enhanced INQUIRE ASSOCIATION and INQUIRE IPIC SPI commands; new IPCONN and TASKASSOC information in CPSM operations base tables.

‘CONTROL’ Theme - 3

CICS Management Client Interface (CMCI)

What is CMCI? What is REpresentational State Transfer (RESTful) principles? Use by HTTP client applications; GET, POST, PUT and DELETE methods; CMCI XML schema and XML elements.

‘CONTROL’ Theme - 4

New SPI Command Level for RDO Objects

Command level programmable interface to access the CSD; alternative to CEDA and DFHCSDUP; a quick overview of some of the most likely used SPI commands out of the two dozen or more commands.

Catch-all
‘COMPLY’ theme
Distributed identities and HTTP basic authentication.

‘CONTROL’ theme
Enhanced AUTHTYPE(SIGN) with DB2 and RACF; SYSLINK support for IPIC connections in CICSPlex/SM; WebSphere MQSeries queue sharing.
